“When we as a society begin to value mothers as the givers and supporters of life, then we will see social change in ways that matter.”

— Ina May Gaskin

This is a course for the postpartum body.

Do you ever feel like something within you is disconnected since giving birth?

Very often, a womxn’s focus goes from her own growing belly to the baby in her arms. Though her body needs to recover from the intensity of childbirth, little time may be available for her own care.

Her wounds lay dormant as she tends her family. Her healing process is secondary.

The mother, the birthing parent, the body who opens to the power of the universe is the central component of the family unit. They are the nurturers of all life.

As the center of the family, their wellness reflects the family’s wellness. Their support for others comes from the support they are given. When center isn’t functioning well, neither can the rest.

Returning To Center is…

Amy’s course provided the lifeline I was desperate for. I came away with a deep understanding of what my core had undergone during the course of pregnancy and birth, along with real tools to revitalize it. I learned how to diagnose my own diastasis and help the deeper layers of scar tissue dissipate.

Today we find ourselves in a culture that negates the postpartum experience as something to just “push through” in order to “get your body back.”

We find ourselves inside a medical tradition that neither understands common postpartum complications nor refers patients to professionals who do.

Birthing bodies are told what they’re experiencing is “normal” and that nothing can be done outside of invasive surgical procedures.

While what you may be feeling is common, it doesn’t have to be your new normal.

All of your experiences are valid.

Your experiences, when brought into awareness, can teach you how to heal the wounds that arose from pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum.

Your experiences can be the catalyst for your ever-increasing strength and vitality.

Birthing people hold the capacity to bring new life into the world. Their bodies hold the wisdom of ancient woman, while propelling humanity further into the future.

Pregnancy and birth are major events for your body, your mind, and your spirit. The transformations they bring come with great joy and personal growth, but can also leave you feeling misaligned, uncomfortable, weak, and less mobile or energetic.

After the radical transformation needed to grow a baby and give birth, both your body and psyche have to find ways to reorient and adapt to the profound shifts of motherhood.

This course is for you if you…

Amy is extraordinarily knowledgable, gentle and encouraging as she not only explains how and why things adjust during pregnancy and postpartum, her approach to movement and healing was gentle enough for me to commit a routine to.

Returning to Center Curriculum

In this course you will…

  • Understand what’s going on in your body during and after pregnancy.

  • Learn what your deep core really is and how to exercise it safely.

  • Practice checking for diastasis recti (abdominal gap) and learn how to restore it through exercise.

  • Connect with new mothers around the world who are recovering from pregnancy and birth.

  • And much, much more!

Module 1: Meet Your Center

The five videos in this module build a context for the exercises that will follow. You will learn about the anatomic shifts your body is experiencing since giving birth and why your deep core is so important during this time. You’ll learn the principles of movement that help you not only build strength, but actually change the patterns that cause you pain and disconnection.

Module 2: Move Your Center

This is the bulk of the course, with four extended movement sequences. More than 25 videos will guide you through safe exercise sequences that rebuild your core and whole-body strength.

Deep Core Anatomy in Motion

Connect to the deep core muscles through repetition and patience. These exercises are the foundation of all other movement. Once you discover their quiet power, your movement will feel less burdened, heavy and disconnected. You’ll notice an inner buoyancy emerge.

Lower Body Foundations

With the deep core charged, you’ll learn how it supports your lower body and its ability to ground you. By layering the deep core into hip and leg power, you’ll find an effortlessness to your posture that allows you to more easefully rise up and lower down into the ground throughout your day.

Upper Body Expressions

From the power of your foundation, to the height of your reach, you’ll open your upper body over a series of movements that not only alleviate neck & shoulder tension, but dissolve the source of the pain.

Integration

After gaining familiarity with the various ways the deep core supports your whole body movement, you will practice exercises that challenge your core strength and employ your arms and your legs on a grander scale.

Module 3: Expand Your Center

Included in this module are several bonus offerings to help round out your practice — a final self-assessment to test your new strength, tools for cesarean scar care, and downloadable audio meditations for continued practice.

Bonus Materials

You’ll find bonus materials peppered throughout the course. A variety of tools that help learners of all kinds, whether visual, aural or kinesthetic.

  • Illustrated guides to help you visualize your anatomy as you repair and rebuild

  • Streamlined audio classes you can take anywhere

  • Tools to self-assess the strength of your core at the beginning and the end of the course

  • Special instructions on how to check for and treat Diastasis Recti

  • Tools for cesarean scar care

  • A private facebook group in which you can ask me questions and connect with other women in the course that share your goals and concerns.

The first sequence alone has given me the awareness to adjust the way I sit every time I feed my baby. That subtle shift reverberates throughout my day in better walking, standing, and sleeping, and best of all, I feel hopeful that little by little more ease and strength will come back to my whole body!
