There’s a myth permeating the fitness industry…

The idea that you need to be fixed. That your teachers, trainers, and coaches have the answers. That somehow you don’t know how to tend to your body.

They sell systems, protocols, supplements that give you a direct line to your goals…. but as I peruse more and more online libraries and courses, I see the same thing - a tool to move the body without listening to it. 

It’s a top-down, outside-in method. Focusing on an action instead of the landscape being acted upon. Focusing on the expert of the program, not the expert of your body. (HINT: that’s you!)

This approach can be helpful for many who need that extra encouragement, guidance, or motivation. It can serve you when you need to get out of your head and just M.O.V.E.

Beyond that intention, however, this approach can do more harm than good.

The truth is that we don’t all follow the same rhythm. By imposing a top-down, outside-in system on a body, we aren’t seeing what the body needs; we’re seeing how it reacts out of habit.

When your movement goals shift from ‘just get out there and move’ to ‘move well and without injury,’ then your approach has to shift too.



An Inside-Out Approach

Every single body operates from its inherent body wisdom, its unique rhythm. When we get out of sync with those natural rhythms, the body lets us know. Think about how many times your shoulder spasms when you sleep on it funny or pick up your growing baby. What about when your head aches after too much screen time or your feet swell after your run?




Find the ways your body wants to move — not how it’s been patterned to move — but the heart-stopping, soul-affirming, root-growing ways you want to express in the world.

 

These are all messages from your body saying that what you’re doing is out of sync with what it’s capable of in that moment. It just needs us to listen to these messages and respond with more awareness.




Now multiply these few moments listed above with the thousands of actions you execute every. single. day. That’s A LOT of messages to listen for.

My job is to help you unwind the jumble of messages and make sense of them.


I know there is nothing wrong with you or your body. I know that the same protocols that work for me won’t necessarily work for you. In order to do my job well, I have to be adaptable to what enlightens your body into action. 



That’s why HomeBody doesn’t offer one-off coaching sessions - because working from the inside-out takes time. It takes time to learn how to stop and listen; it takes time to consciously get to know your tendencies and patterns; it takes time to safely embody a new path.

The 12-session container we create together is first about paying attention to what messages the body wants to share. We find a baseline for your sense of strength, endurance, resilience, and range of motion, then gradually broaden your capacity for each.



Secondly, we get you in sync with your body’s natural rhythm again. Through your feedback and my adaptive guidance, we journey together through your movement patterns until we find the ways your body wants to move - not how it’s been patterned to move - but the heart-stopping, soul-affirming, root-growing ways you want to express in the world.


And finally, once in tune with your organic rhythms, you can resolve the patterns that strain, pain, and disorient you. You finish your HomeBody experience with the confidence to move on your own terms, in your own rhythm.

Inside our sessions together, there are challenging acts of endurance along with gentle moments of reflection. There is tension without strain, rhythm & flow with a focus on functionality. You move for pleasure and autonomy. You stretch and bend into unknown places that shine a light on your inner power.



HomeBody is not a quick fix, top-down approach to better movement habits. It’s one stop on your long healing journey; it’s an opportunity for you to be compassionately witnessed just as you are in this moment, while you do the hard work of turning inward and allowing your essential rhythms to unfold into being.





I’m not a trainer with a program to sell. I’m a guide with a mix of ancient and contemporary tools that will support your return to your foundation, to a re-membering of where the source of your power lies. (HINT: the answer is always within you.)
